"Usko"( Lotto x Katja) "Usko" means faith in Finnish. (I have been told that it is a name often used for a faithful animal like a dog.) I selected this name because Usko is our first F1 lamb out of the imported bloodlines and he represents our faith in the future of our breeding program. Usko is a black (so far) ram and the son of Lotto and Katja. He is black and carries for brown. He is the sire of Kahvi, Annika and Boris. He is a single, which is not typical of Finnsheep. However, it is normal to get a smaller litter size when using Artificial Insemination. His mother is a quint and his father is a triplet, so I am not concerned about prolificacy in his line. Because he was a single and had all the space and nutrition in the womb to himself he was quite large as well as precocious at birth. He was 9 1/4 pounds! (Compared to my quad lambs which ranged from 4 pounds to 6 1/4 pounds.) As is typical with F1 lambs, he has good size and bone. This is because it is an outcross. He was also born a few days later than a typical Finnsheep gestation. Because he was already so developed at birth, he was up and running around almost immediately. It was like he was a week old lamb at birth!
