Rio

Rio is our Great Pyrenees flock guardian dog. She lives out in the pasture with our sheep to protect them from predators. In this area that is primarily coyotes or roaming dogs. We purchased Rio when she was 8 months old from Boulder Ridge Farm in Oklahoma. She had been socialized to be bonded with sheep from puppyhood and thinks of the sheep as part of her pack. She also worked alongside her parents and learned from them.

Of course we still spend time with her outside everyday. I make sure to give her lots of attention when she is out with her sheep and is doing her job well. We feel that she is probably the most happy and well adjusted of all our dogs, because she knows what her job is and she knows how to do it.
