Martti's Pedigree

I purchased Martti from Paul Hunter, DVM of PH Farms in Minster, Ohio. He was born in March 2004 and was a triplet. While Dr. Hunter's focus is white, production Finnsheep, his sheep have very nice wool. He is also very careful about health. I needed to obtain a ram who was completely unrelated to the rest of my flock in order to establish an additional ram line. When I went to Dr. Hunter's farm, I had 9 Finn ram lambs to select from. I narrowed my choices down to two which had the type of wool and physical characteristics that I was looking for. Both of these ram lambs were triplets and they had the same sire. Martti was the smaller of the two, but he won me over with his friendly (but not pushy) personality and calm temperament.

At age two, Martti is a big boy and has a good size frame. He has a longer, more "modern" body type than my other rams. He requires a little grain along with his pasture / grass-hay to not get too thin. Of course, at age two he is still growing and developing a bit. I like to breed him to my more cobby "old fashioned" bodied ewes who tend to be easy-keepers. My goal is to get moderate lambs with the best traits of both parents. Martti has very fine wool for a Finn and one of the most consistent fleeces in my flock.
