"Katja"(Eino x Rowan) Katja is a compact ewe with very nice proportion. She was a bottle lamb from a set of quintuplets. She is very inquisitive and quite intelligent. This has led to her nickname of "the sheepy delinquent". While she is genetically a black sheep, her wool is a very dark grey/black with some silvery threads through it. She is the litter-sister to Uma. Katja produced twin black lambs in March 2004, one of whom is Bo. Usually Finn ewes produce a single or twins their first pregnancy, especially if they are ewe lambs. We were quite impressed that little Katja (a rather small ewe) produced big, healthy twins on her first litter. In March 2005, Katja produced a single "giant lamb" when bred to semen from Finland using artificial insemination. It is typical to get smaller litters using AI. She was bred to Lotto, a grey ram. This lamb grew up to be Usko who is black but recessive for brown. He is the start of a completely new line of Finnsheep for us in North America and is the sire of our first brown lamb. In April 2006, she produced quads when bred to Martti. Katja is quite cobby and Martti is rather long. Their babies turned out to be more moderate in their body length. All four turned out attactive sheep with nice wool.
