A little about Finnsheep...

Known as Finnish Landrace in their native Finland, the breed is thought to be several hundred years old. They were first imported into Canada in 1966 and into the United States in 1968. In 1998, frozen semen was imported from Finland with the goal of bringing in unrelated genetics and introducing the brown and grey colored Finns into the United States. Most of our sheep are F2, F3, or F4 from the imported Finnish genetics.

Finnsheep are a small and hardy farm-flock sheep. They are easy to handle and the rams are generally non-aggressive. They can have lambs as yearlings and are known for having litters of small but vigorous babies. The things that attracted us to the breed were their docile nature, excellent reproductive and mothering abilities and wonderful, lustrous, medium wool.

I am a member and past-president of the American Finnsheep Breeder's Association, and serve as its Vice-President and Webmaster. I am a member of the Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Cooperative. I was formerly a member of Maatiaislampaat Ry, a Finnish Landrace Sheep Association in Finland (no longer in existance).
